From the 1970 Ford Mustang Data brochure:
The Mach I Sportsroof combines traditional styling with an all-new design standard V-8 engine, a special suspension system and a unique interior package.
The exterior of Mach I models includes a unique plastic grille and driving lamps, E70 fiberglass-belted, bias ply tires, hood lock pins, a non-functional hood scoop and a new black or white hood paint treatment and tape engine numbers. A new wide dark accented extruded aluminum rocker panel molding with Mach I die-cast letters is standard, as are dual color-keyed racing mirrors with L.H. remote control features, a new deck lid tape stripe with new die-cast "Mach I" letters centered on the deck lid, new lower back panel with "honey-comb" applique, pop-open gas cap and a new oval-design bright exhaust extensions with the optional 351 4v and 428 4v engines.
The interior of the Mach I is accented by the high-back bucket seats with "Comfortweave" knitted vinyl inserts, a deluxe 3-spoke "Rim-Blow" steering wheel, special color-keyed carpeting, a floor console and simulated wood-grain trim on the console, instrument panel and door panels, molded door trim panels with courtesy lamps, an electric clock and bright-trimmed pedal pads.
A special suspension with higher-rate front and rear springs, larger diameter front stabilizer bars, a rear stabilizer bar, and high-capacity shock absorbers helps provide the performance ride characteristics of the Mach I.
